Shorty The President, born Derek Thompson on January 5, 1949, in Trelawny, Jamaica, is a well-known reggae deejay who gained prominence in the 1970s. He was one of the early pioneers of toasting, a vocal style that heavily influenced the development of dancehall and rap music. Shorty first rose to fame with his DJ version of Slim Smith’s song My Conversation , which was produced by Bunny Lee and licensed to Rupie Edwards

Throughout his career, Shorty The President recorded numerous tracks that blended social commentary with humor and energetic delivery. Some of his notable songs include Half Way Tree Pressure (1971), President A Mash Up The Resident (1971), and Natty Dread Have Ambition (1976)
