About Jah Walton - Day Nurse MIXED BY THE SCIENTIST

Jah Walton – Day Nurse

Jah Walton, also known later in his career as Joseph Cotton, is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist known for his witty lyrical style and distinctive voice. In the 1970s, performing under the name Jah Walton, he made a name for himself with several recordings that combined social commentary with humor and streetwise observations.

One of his notable contributions to the reggae scene came with his association to the song "Day Nurse", though it's important to clarify that the most famous version of “Day Nurse” was performed by Gregory Isaacs and produced by Gussie Clarke in 1982. However, Jah Walton's own style and songs in the era, often revolving around everyday life, relationships, and social issues, influenced the kind of storytelling that “Day Nurse” embodied.

As reggae transitioned into dancehall in the late '70s and early '80s, Jah Walton adopted the stage name Joseph Cotton and enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in the UK and Europe. Under this name, he released several albums and singles that maintained his trademark blend of humor, consciousness, and rhythm.

Though not the original singer of "Day Nurse", Jah Walton’s early recordings helped lay the foundation for lovers rock and dancehall lyrical styles. His transformation into Joseph Cotton reflects the versatility and enduring appeal of his work in reggae music.
