About JAH STICH Give Jah The Glory Mixed By The Scientist

Jah Stitch – Bio

Jah Stitch (born Melbourne James, 1949 – 2021) was a legendary figure in the Jamaican reggae and deejay (toasting) scene. A pioneer of the roots reggae and dub era, Jah Stitch rose to prominence in the 1970s with his gritty voice, streetwise lyrics, and deep connection to Kingston’s sound system culture.

He began his musical journey as a selector for Tippertone Sound, one of Kingston’s premier sound systems, before transitioning into a deejay. His collaborations with producers like Bunny Lee led to a series of hit singles, including “Danger Zone,” “No Dread Can't Dead,” and “The Killer.” His unique vocal delivery and militant yet spiritual themes made him a standout voice during the politically and socially charged reggae era of the '70s.

Surviving a near-fatal gunshot wound in the mid-1970s, Jah Stitch returned stronger and even more respected, with the nickname “No Dread Can’t Dead” symbolizing his resilience. His lyrics often reflected the struggles of the Jamaican ghettos, Rastafarian beliefs, and messages of upliftment.

Though he never reached the same commercial heights as some of his contemporaries, Jah Stitch remains a cult icon in reggae and dub music circles. His influence can be heard in generations of deejays and selectors who followed his path.

Jah Stitch passed away in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of raw, conscious, and powerful sound system artistry.
